Lutheran Campus Ministry is a sixty-six year old ministry located in Oakland to serve the needs of students at Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, Chatham and Carlow univerisities. The campus ministry offers opportunities for fellowship, learning, service and worship stemming from a distinctive Lutheran identity.
All students, whether Lutheran or not are welcome.Students at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon have student organizations that serve as official connections to their respective universities. Pitt students belong to Pitt Students Active in Lutheran Ministry (P.S.A.L.M.) and CMU students belong to Lutheran Student Ministry at CMU.
The campus ministry is served by the Rev. Brian O. Bennett, who previously served St. Paul Lutheran Church in Morgantown, WV.
An important feature of the LUC is the weekly choral compline prayed at Heinz Chapel on Sunday evenings at 8pm by the Pittsburgh Compline Choir. This compline ministry has been active for nearly twenty-five years. Begun by John Becker, this choir is now directed by Alastair Stout and performs pieces both ancient and modern. People travel from the greater Pittsburgh area to hear their excellence. Compline is still however a prayer office which means the people gathered also pray for rest and safety throughout the night.
